Great
care is taken to assure that land in and near the mining area is not
harmed by mining operations. Dams and diversions are built to control
water runoff and sediment. Diesel-powered scrapers remove all the
topsoil and up to 5 feet of subsoil. The soil, which contains nutrients
needed for plant growth, is either stockpiled for future use or spread
directly on previously mined areas. |
